Summary
In the summer of 2021, Dean Mouwafac Sidaoui taught Intro to Business Analytics (BSA 315). Two of his students, Nick Abrams and Abhishruti 'Avy' Adhikari, collaborated on a research project with the Dean, producing a paper for the International Federation for Information Processing conference on September 1, 2021. Nick presented their findings at the conference and Avy will present through the upcoming Library Research Colloquium at Menlo College. The Coronavirus pandemic impacted areas all across the United States, but which areas have been affected the most? The results are surprising. Utilizing data visualization software and data transformation techniques, our research measures which areas of the United States are most severely impacted by the pandemic. This research naturally flowed into further questions, asking, "How does one exactly measure the severity of the Coronavirus?" and "What is the best measure of severity for something like an infectious disease?" We expect exploring these questions may lead to thoughtful considerations by future policymakers as they determine how and where to allocate medical resources.
