Checking out items in WMS

How to Check Out Items in WMS

(This example is for checking out Course Reserve items, but the process is the same for checking out items in the other collections. The main difference is that you will not have to "override" the item since the patron will be able to keep the item for a much longer period.)

  • Once you have retrieved the item, access ‘Circulation’ within OCLC WorldShare/WorldCat in the toolbar displayed above. Under ‘Assist Patrons’, if the patron has their Menlo ID, scan it into the barcode box indicated.

  • Should they not have their Menlo ID, you can search for either their name or their ID number in the bar just below the barcode search.

  • Observe that the same patron record appears regardless of whether you search via name or ID number.

  • Click on the patron’s record, and scan the course reserve material into the barcode box indicated.

  • Once the barcode is scanned in, note the pop up that appears whenever a course reserve is scanned for check out. Remind patrons of the parameters for fines, if necessary. Click ‘Acknowledge’ when through.

  • Observe that the item has been successfully checked out by checking the top left hand corner for an increased item count. In addition, to help patrons abide by the two hour checkout period mandated for course reserves, notify them of the time that the material is due.

How to Check In Items in WMS

(This example is specifically for course reserves, but the function is essentially the same for other items. The main difference is the location shelf for the items not on course reserves.)

  • Navigate to the Check In Function within WMS

  • Scan the barcode as displayed.

  • Note that the same pop up that appears for course reserve check out appears for check in. Click ‘Acknowledge’ again to ensure that the check in process is complete.

  • Note the directions for how the course reserve should be reshelved in its proper place in the course reserve cabinet. Be timely with course reserve returns, and do not let them pile up.
