Module 3: Truncation

Truncation allows you to search different forms of the same word at the same time.

  • Truncation is also known as stemming.

  • Use the root, or stem, of a word and add an asterisk (*) as a substitute for the word's ending.

    • Psycho*

      1. psychology

      2. psychological

      3. psychologist

      4. psychosis

      5. psychoanalyst

  • Truncation can save time and increase your search to include related words.
