"Through the lens of literature and other forms of cultural production (music, the visual arts, film, etc.),
this course examines issues of Latinx identity and the Latinx experience in the US, including:
bilingualism and code-switching; labelling race/ethnicity and the complexities of Latinx racial identity;
gender identity and the machismo/marianismo paradigm; identity and citizenship; queer Latinx identities;
cultural Catholicism and the role of religion; pan-hispanism and the rhetoric of latinidad. While the course
