How to use a citation guide

A step by step guide for citations:

  1. Know which citation style you need.  For this class it is MLA
  2. Identify the source you are using.  This can be an academic journal, or a newspaper, or a website.
  3. Go to your citation guide for MLA.  This can be an MLA citation guide book.  Or it can be the Purdue OWL citation website.
  4. Look for a table of contents.  You want to find the section representing the type of source you have.
  5. Once you find the right section, following the exact instructions on how to write out and format your citation.  Remember you must create the citation exactly as shown in the guide.
