Learning Community Resources

 
This guide for Menlo College faculty and staff includes suggestions for resources that will be useful in moving forward with our Live/Learn Initiative. It contains information on various aspects of learning communities, including service learning, interdisciplinary learning, and collaboration between academic and student affairs. Use these resources to develop programming inside and outside the classroom to reinforce student learning. This resource is a work-in-progress. Let us know works you come upon in your own research and we'll update the page regularly.

Sponsored by the Washington Center for Improving the Quality of Undergraduate Education at Evergreen State College, this site contains a wealth of information on learning communities, from the basics of what they are and why they are important to resources on institutional examples, rationale and models, assessment, and sustainability. An essential resource for understanding and implementing learning communities.

Campus Compact

Campus Compact is a coalition of college and university presidents dedicated "to promoting community service, civic engagement, and service-learning in higher education." This site includes many useful resources, including service learning program models, syllabi incorporating service learning into the classroom, annual service statistics, and research papers on topics such as service learning's impact on retention. Highly recommended.

National Service-Learning Clearinghouse

Another site devoted to service learning and filled with valuable resources. There's a section devoted to higher education, as well as lists of resources and a library section containing bibliographies and links to journals and periodicals that deal with service learning.

NASPA online
http://www.naspa.org
NASPA is the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators. In addition to information about professional development in the area of student affairs, this site contains a bibliography on the "Student Affairs/Academic Affairs Connection."
